Level or amount of energy being emitted by either a natural (e.g. sun) or an artificial source of light. The nature of the light being provided and related colour contrasts created in the visual surroundings, and which may provide useful information about the world (e.g. visual information on the presence of stairs or a door) or distractions (e.g. too many visual images).
